Plain-English answers to the questions that come up most.
Is RecallDocket a substitute for legal advice?
No. RecallDocket helps you discover potentially recalled products in your catalog and prepare information for a CPSC Section 15(b) report. You remain responsible for the accuracy of any filing and should consult product-safety counsel.
What does "Section 15(b)" mean?
Section 15(b) of the Consumer Product Safety Act requires manufacturers, importers, distributors, and retailers to report substantial product hazards to the CPSC. The new electronic filing requirement takes effect July 8, 2026.
How does the matching engine work?
We compare your product catalog against the CPSC SaferProducts.gov recall feed using brand, category, model number, and description signals. Each match is scored 0-100 so you can prioritise review.
Will RecallDocket message my customers without my permission?
No. Customer email is opt-in per recall: you review the match, customise the template, and click Send. Nothing goes out automatically.
Where is my data stored and who can access it?
Your data is stored securely in the US with enterprise-grade encryption. Only authenticated members of your Shopify store can access it through the embedded app.
How does billing work?
All charges are handled through Shopify Billing. There's no separate credit card to manage — the charge appears on your Shopify bill, and you can cancel any time from inside RecallDocket.
